Ben Votava grew up in the Chicagoland area and his love for law began while studying for his undergraduate degree. He attended Illinois State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He became interested in law when he began to see firsthand the impact of the legal system on the mentally ill in our society. During this time, he accepted a position with the DuPage County State’s Attorney where he further developed his trial skills utilizing the Illinois Supreme Court’s student bar card program. Ben tried over a dozen cases involving family violence, theft, and other misdemeanors as a law student. Ben also worked on complex gang and narcotics cases during his time in both the gang and narcotics units just outside of Chicago.
After Law School Ben moved to Texas where he furthered his insight into the criminal justice system by taking a position with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office. While at Collin County Ben rose quickly through the ranks to become Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, Chief of Auxilliary Court, and Chief of County Court Law 6. He successfully prosecuted hundreds of cases ranging from theft to domestic violence. Ben also presented dozens of felonies at Grand Jury ranging from State Jail Felonies up to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
